Fashion writer, designer and Instagram star Fran Bacon shows us how to wear the key pieces right now

Take a walk on the wide side

This season is all about wide-leg trousers. I love that trousers are getting wider – it’s very Nineties. I sized up for an even baggier more laid-back vibe. To make voluminous trousers work, you’ve got to balance them out with a neater top. A cashmere jumper makes even a working-from-home day feel luxurious and the baby-blue shade is flattering for all skin tones and hair colours. Leopard-print shoes add a bit of interest and depth.

Do the polka

When I shop, I’m looking for key items to make my outfits look more modern, or add a twist to things I’ve already got. I’m a huge fan of blouses, and this polka-dot one would work year-round. Lightweight and easy to wear, you could throw a blazer over it or wear it under a biker jacket. I live in leather trousers and these are so comfortable – the relaxed fit and ankle length make them really versatile.

Shacket real good

Everyone needs a khaki shacket; they’re so useful. Layer over lightweight tops right now and wear with shorts and a T-shirt in high summer. My style is understated but a great pair of jeans works in every situation. These are amazing – relaxed boyfriend fit, great vintage wash and an ankle length that you can wear with everything from trainers to heels. The square heels on these shoes mean you can actually walk in them – even if it’s just around the living room.
