CHOOSING YOUR PERFECT HOME FRAGRANCE

Home fragrance is a quick and easy way to change the feel of a room – as well as lift your mood. Find the right scent for you and your space with our expert tips

Choose a fragrance family

Fragrance families have certain notes or scents in common. Knowing which one you prefer can help you find the right fragrance for your home:

Fresh: Bright, clean and invigorating scents reminiscent of a sea breeze. Commonly contain hints of neroli, sea salt and jasmine.

Citrus: With lemon, bergamot, mandarin and grapefruit as the top notes, the citrus family is characterised by refreshing, zesty smells.

Amber: Amber fragrances are rich and full-bodied. They may incorporate notes of vanilla, leather, pepper, tonka bean and woods.

Floral: The floral family consists of fragrances such as jasmine, mimosa, rose, freesia and peony.

Herbal: Herbal fragrances, known for their soothing and calming effects, often incorporate notes such as lavender, sweet orange, geranium and cedarwood.

Gourmand: These are tantalising ‘food-like’ scents with undertones of vanilla, caramel, coffee, chocolate and honey.

Fruity: Fruity fragrances often have sweet berry or tropical bases, and may feature undertones of pomegranate, apple, fig or rhubarb.

Choosing a scent for each room

Living room: Select a scent according to the occasion or the season – overpowering smells should be avoided. Consider choosing Fresh Linen or Dark Amber & Vanilla for a tranquil environment. Wild Rhubarb or White Jasmine can add a touch of intensity.

Kitchen: Opt for citrus or spicy aromas to complement cooking smells. Our Neroli, Lime & Bergamot candle and diffuser work well in the kitchen.

Bathroom: For the bathroom, we suggest fresh, clean scents with a hint of the outdoors. Our Seashells room spray from our Library of Scent range is a good choice.

BedroomRelaxing aromas are best for bedrooms. Add notes of calming lavender and sandalwood with the Warmth range from Apothecary.

Home office: Scents that boost concentration and focus – such as our Lime, Bergamot & Mandarin scented candle from the Library of Scent range – are ideal.

Caring for your home fragrance

Electric diffusers: Regular cleaning of your diffuser is critical, as essential oils leave a residue that can block it. Use a cloth to clear any residual oil or water after each use. You can clean your diffuser by adding a teaspoon of white vinegar and running it outdoors for a short time. The scent levels can be increased by adding more oil drops to the water base while the diffuser is in operation.

Candles: Reading all precautionary warnings and advice before use is important – these can vary based on the candle. When you first burn your candle, allow it to stay lit for a while to let the fragrance settle and release. Using a snuffer to put out the candle and trimming the wick to 10mm before the next use can ensure a safe, clean burn.

Reed diffusers: We suggest using between five and seven reeds in your diffuser. Add more diffuser reeds for a stronger scent, or to fill bigger rooms. To refresh the fragrance, flip the reeds every week and replace if using refills. To allow the scent to travel faster, position the diffuser near a radiator.
