Warm weather is on the way and we’re in the mood to dress up – here’s how to do it without breaking the bank

The white lace dress

Nothing says summer quite like a pretty white dress, and this lace-trimmed number is ticking all the boxes. The waist-nipped shape is super flattering without being restrictive, while the cotton fabric is naturally light and breathable (plus, like all the cotton in M&S clothes, sustainably sourced). Make like Clementine MacNeice, pictured here, and wear yours with minimalist mules and delicate jewellery.

The breastfeeding-friendly dress

The best kind of maternity wear? Clothes that you can wear through pregnancy, nursing and beyond. This linen striped dress isn’t actually from the M&S maternity range, but as Nina Noel shows in this photo, it’s a great bump-friendly option if you’re expecting. Even better, the button fastenings down the side make it ideal for breastfeeding, and, in the longer term, a belt is all you need to fit it to your changing body.

The little black dress

You might associate the classic little black dress with Christmas party season, but in fact a summer LBD is extremely chic. After all, black can be the perfect backdrop to all your most vibrant summer accessories and, most importantly, you don’t have to worry so much about accidentally dripping ketchup down yourself at a barbecue when wearing it. Make like Gabrielle Bassett and choose a simple design such as this frill-strapped slip dress, which looks great with an eye-catching bag.
