A high quality single-estate Rioja made from 80+ year old vines – giving the wine wonderful depth, complexity and elegance.
El Regalo is a single plot of Tempranillo vines in the Rioja Alavesa district. The area is protected by the Sierra de Cantabria mountains, which provides a perfect microclimate for the vines to thrive and helps them produce healthy grapes with excellent winemaking potential. The five hectare vineyard lies in the foothills of the mountains at around 500 metres, sloping towards the sun. The vines here were planted in 1930, so are old, gnarly and low yielding – but their grapes are incredibly concentrated. Winemaker Ruth Rodriguez vinified the wine in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, finally maturing the wine for 20 months in French oak barrels, which has added texture and body to the wine while balancing the intense fruit with deeper spice and leather notes.
