This bright, fruit-forward red is an excellent example of the modern wines coming out of Sicily right now. The Nero d’Avola grapes were sourced from 20-year-old vineyards in the centre of the island, located in the province of Caltanissetta. The vineyards lie 500 meters above sea level, where the combination of warm days and cool nights helps to produce high quality, well balanced fruit. The Curatolo Arini winery was established in 1875 and is today run by the fifth generation of Curatolos, making it one of the oldest family-owned wine business in Sicily. Winemaker Alberto Antonini oversaw the production of this Nero d’Avola, who left it unoaked to show off the character of the Nero d’Avola variety.
