If you have an oval face, then lucky you – you can get away with pretty much any sunglasses (or haircut, for that matter.) An oval face shape is longer than wide, with a jaw that is narrower than the cheekbones. The jawline and forehead are usually softly defined or rounded, with an overall sense of being well-proportioned. Experiment with fun designs or keep things classic with timeless wayfarer-style shades.

Face shape: round or square

A circular face looks great with a pair of angular sunglasses, such as these rectangular shades, which are cool and contemporary. Square-shaped sunglasses also work well. Avoid anything too round, as the overall effect will be too spherical.

On the other hand, angular faces with broad foreheads and strong jawlines suit round frames or oval-shaped sunglasses. Look for angle-softening details, such as delicate metal frames, rimless designs or designs with bevelled lenses. Steer away from aviator sunglasses which will add extra width at the temples.

Face shape: long

If you have an elongated face, choosing shades is all about adding width, which is why bold, oversized sunglasses are a strong choice. Steer away from narrow shades, which are unflattering on a long, slender face. Make like Audrey Hepburn and opt for chunky black acetate frames which spell timeless glamour, or experiment with a more contemporary hexagonal sunglasses for a statement look.
