Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) take back is free of charge on an indefinite, one-for-one equivalent basis and must be of a similar type or have performed the same function as the new equipment purchased online or in one of our stores in the Republic of Ireland.
Local Civic Amenity centres will also accept household waste electrical and electronic equipment for recycling for free. To find your nearest recycling centre visit www.weeeireland.ie
From the 1st July 2014, Visible Environmental Management Costs (vEMC’s) have been reintroduced in Ireland. These costs, which are included in the price of the appliance, consist of the contribution of WEEE management from private households. For a detailed breakdown please visit https://www.producerregister.ie/
The price of all LED lamps and luminaries is inclusive of € 0.05 contribution to recycling cost.
Waste household (portable) batteries can be returned free of charge to any local M&S store as long as an equivalent type is available to buy. Portable batteries include AA, AAA and button cell batteries. No proof of purchase is required.
Alternatively, batteries can be returned to recycling points at any supermarket as well as other collection points free of charge. For more recycling information visit www.weeeireland.ie
What is the scheme?
On 1 February 2024, the Deposit Return Scheme was introduced in Ireland. It is administered by Re-turn, a company appointed by the Irish government to incentivise the recycling of drink containers and help protect the environment by reducing litter. For more information, visit https://re-turn.ie/
Now, when you purchase drinks in a plastic bottle or aluminium or steel can that feature the Re-turn logo, you will pay the below deposits:
• 15c for 150-500ml
• 25c for 500ml-3 litres
When you return your empty, undamaged container, you will receive your deposit back in full, and all returned containers will be used to create new drink containers.
How do I return my empty container?
You can return your empty containers in any of our 18 stores using the Reverse Vending Machines (RVM). You can find these in the majority of our Foodhalls, but a small number are located in entrance lobbies. If you can’t find a machine, please speak to a colleague in store. The Reverse Vending Machines crush the containers and issue a voucher for the total value of returned items. These machines will accept containers from all retailers, not just M&S.
Deposit refund vouchers can be redeemed against shopping bills in store, exchanged for cash or donated to charity at the till. Vouchers can only be redeemed in the store where they are issued, not in any other M&S stores.
