M&S lead product developer, Sandy Tchilinguirian says the secret to our success is our top-secret spice blend: “Our hot cross buns are made by expert bakers who have a baking heritage stretching over 140 years, and our recipe is a closely guarded secret, so you won’t find these buns in any other supermarket! We’ve been tweaking the ratios in the spice blend used to make our award-winning Luxury Hot Cross Buns since 2002, and we carry out regular taste-tests to ensure the flavour is spot on.”

Luxury Hot Cross Buns

These buns are the OG, rich and aromatic and packed full of juicy fruits including sultanas and Vostizza currants, mixed peel and our scrumptious spice blend. Sandy says: “Our buns are packed with carefully selected juicy fruit and follow a unique recipe to ensure the fruit remains intact and plump before being carefully baked, creating a moreish, soft and fluffy texture.” It comes as no surprise that 50% of hot cross buns sold at M&S are our Luxury Hot Cross Buns.

Extremely Caramely Hot Cross Buns

You won’t be able to resist these gooey, sticky, sweet hot cross buns. These rich and smooth caramel-flavoured buns are loaded with salted caramel fudge pieces. They make the perfect afternoon treat or easy dessert with a blob of vanilla ice cream. Find them in store from 28 February.

Chocoholics, listen up. Made with a rich, dark chocolate dough and studded with milk and dark chocolate chunks, our Extremely Chocolatey Hot Cross Buns are a brilliant alternative for anyone who isn't a fan of the traditional fruity versions. No raisins here.

Extremely Cheesy Hot Cross Buns

Our Extremely Cheesy Hot Cross Buns are filled with extra mature Barber’s farmhouse cheddar and red leicester. Try them toasted with plenty of butter, or take things up a notch with our brilliant brunch idea. Fill the bun with sliced avocado, griddled halloumi, an oozy fried egg, coriander leaves and a little sriracha for a spicy kick.
