What are additives?

What are additives?

Additives are used for a variety of functions such as maintaining food product quality, or keeping food safe.

At Marks & Spencer, our policy is to limit the use of artificial additives in foods and drinks wherever possible and always prioritise the use of natural alternatives.

How do M&S use additives?

There are several additives not permitted in any of our foods. We don’t use any artificial colours or flavours and ban the use of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), cyclamates, tartrazine and Ponceau 4R.

Furthermore, all our children’s ranges don’t contain any artificial colours, flavours sweeteners or added preservatives.
