CASUAL SUMMER STYLE WITH LATTITIA TAYLOR

The stylist, former fashion editor and new mum shares her three favourite summer outfits for beach, bar and beyond

Let’s go to the beach

"In the warmer months, I live in lightweight fabrics and billowing silhouettes so, for these summer looks, I’ve ensured that there is at least one element of this in each ensemble. Comfort in terms of fit and temperature are paramount to me. White linen staples and cotton maxi dresses can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion with a simple edit of accessories and footwear.

“Accessories, be it a silk scarf, statement bag or chunky sandal, are fail-safe ways to instantly update your outfit without compromising your budget or personal style. The leather woven tote I’m wearing here is a standout piece for me – as a new mum I love the storage size – although all the pieces I’ve selected will feature in my summer capsule wardrobe simply because of their versatility.”

On the coffee run

“These stonewash jeans and breezy linen top make great additions to my everyday wardrobe rotation. As I’ve developed my personal style over the years, I’ve tended to gravitate towards a neutral pallet and have always considered the longevity of each piece, especially with the sustainability movement we’ve seen of late. The pieces featured in this look are timeless and match my minimalist, yet polished style.”

Did you know, 100% of the cotton used in M&S clothing is sustainably sourced and our denim is produced using less water, kinder chemicals and sustainably sourced fabrics. Discover more about M&S denim in our best jeans for women guide.

The eye-catching party dress

"A summery red dress is the perfect outfit for any special occasion. This one is loose fitting, so I’ll be comfortable for a whole day of eating and lounging. Transitioning your summer dress for the evening is easy – the secret is all in the footwear. Casual slides or sandals for the day and a mid- or high-heels for the evening. Add some gold hoops, subtle smoky eye make-up and tousled hair to amplify your PM look.

“If you’re attending any parties this year, always check the invite or ask the host what the dress code is. There’s nothing worse than feeling under or overdressed and then self-conscious as a result. Dress to suit your body shape, too – confidence comes from comfort, not the trending, must-have item of that month. Always tailor pieces to suit your frame – you’ll enjoy each celebration all the more!”
