Sand Point Chardonnay
Vintage: 2010
Richly toasty Chardonnay full of mellow peach and melon flavours with a tang of orange-zest acidity keeping things lively. There are elegant, gently tropical aromas too, adding to the gorgeous freshness of this sprightly white. Satin-smooth wine, easy-going and easy to enjoy.
About this bottle: Winemaker David Akiyoshi ferments a tiny (3%) portion of Viognier in a separate vat to blend with this Chardonnay before bottling. He believes this helps the Chardonnay to really express the rich, tropical side of its nature. Both varieties benefit from the cooling breezes that sweep in from San Francisco Bay; these temper the heat of the California sun, and keep the grapes deliciously light and aromatic.

Sand Point Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage: 2009
Velvety molasses-rich California Cabernet brimming with blackcurrant aromas and classic smoky cedar and plum flavours. Complex, concentrated and delicious, this is a lingering, fruity red, with a bite of acidity and tantalising hints of chocolate.
About this bottle: David Akiyoshi has a deep understanding of the wines of northern California - having spent 25 years making wine with Robert Mondavi, the father of this State's wine industry, he has learnt a thing or two! For this fruity red he blends the classic Bordeaux combination of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes (making up 89% of the mix) with a quirky combination of Petit Verdot (4%), Tannat (4%), Malbec (2%) and Petite Sirah (1%). No wonder this red is so full of complex flavour.

El Circulo Rioja Blanco
Vintage: 2011
Full of light, lively butter and melon aromas then peach and pineapple on the palate, this is a characterful dry white in a real food-matching style. Expect a mineral tang, and a clean, crisp finish keeping this wine moreish and tongue-tingling all the way through.
About this bottle: Winemaker Antolin González was just 24 when he started making wine and has spent most of his career here in Rioja, crafting some of the most famous wines in the world. This white, from Viura grapes, is a lesser-known speciality: one of the region's hidden treasures. It benefits hugely from the cooling Atlantic and Mediterranean breezes that both arrive here to temper the natural heat of the day. Antolin leaves this white on its yeast lees to give it spicy richness.

El Circulo Rioja Red
Vintage: 2011
Elegant and supple Rioja, with sweet, creamy morello cherry aromas, smokey blackcurrants mid-palate, and a lightly spiced, liquorice finish. This is a mouth-watering red for spicing up a spring evening.
About this bottle: Antolin González uses 100% Tempranillo for this bold Rioja, a decision well justified by the array of awards and medals the wine has won. Tempranillo is a core feature of any red Rioja but it doesn't always stand alone. Antolin ferments this wine in stainless steel vats and keeps its temperature low, so that as many grape aromas and characters as possible are preserved. In this way El Circulo's Rioja maintains its vigorous purple colour and mouthwatering freshness.

Petit Noir Grenache
Vintage: 2012

About this bottle: English winemaker Hugh Ryman moved to France with his family in 1974. His intent to make wine took him far and wide: after finishing his studies at Bordeaux university, he worked in Australia for a year, then travelled all over the world, making wine in over 17 different countries. For this red, he has sourced wonderfully intense Grenache fruit from gnarly 40 year old bush-vines in the Minervois.

After finishing his oenology studies in Bordeaux, he began flying all over the world - to more than17 different countries - to make wine.
