La Gravette Grande Reserve

A southern French red with fresh aromas of red berries, ripe currants and wild herbs over a juicy, fruity palate.
About this bottle: This wine is from Corconne, a small medieval village high up in the Cevennes hills of France’s Languedoc region on the outskirts of Montpellier. The area is famed for its deep and stony fossilised limestone ‘Gravettes’ soil, which was used to nurture olive groves but is now used for grapevines. For this wine, Jean-Francois Imbert blended the region’s classic grapes Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault, which, due to the hillside locations of the vineyards are grown, have naturally restricted yields.

Maria Adelaide Nero d'Avola Syrah

A deep and intense Sicilian red with a rich bouquet of autumn berries, plums, spices and green pepper flavours which carry onto the full, rounded and elegant palate.
About this bottle: The Nero d’Avola and Syrah grapes for this wine come from vineyards between Marsala and Mazara del Vallo in the province of Trapani. Lying at around 150m above sea level, the sun-baked vineyards are tempered by fresh sea breezes that cool the vines and help the grapes to ripen beautifully. The wine is a collaboration between Baglio’s winemaker Nino Reina and consultant Alberto Antonini, bringing together 30 years of Sicilian winemaking expertise. The wine was aged for around six months in French oak.

About this bottle: The brownish-grey slate soils of the Bierzo valley in northwest Spain are the backdrop for this unique wine. The little known region benefits from a mild, temperate climate that suits the traditional Mencia grape variety perfectly and enables it to reach its finest expression. This particular wine is made by Katia Alvarez for Bodegas Martin Codax, using grapes from mature 60-year-old vines. The fruit grows in vineyards meticulously maintained by generations of vine growers who’s knowledge of the Mencia grape in unrivalled.

About this bottle: Chile’s Emiliana Vineyards is one of the leading organic and biodynamic wineries in the world. With a total of 997 hectares of vines throughout the Casablanca, Maipo, Colchagua, and Cachapoal valleys, they are the largest organic producer in all South America. This characterful Syrah was made by Emilana’s Felipe Nunoz, a very experienced winemaker and agricultural engineer, who aged a small proportion of the Syrah in French oak barrels for six months to enrich the wine and amplify its spicy complexities.

About this bottle: San Rafael lies in the south of Argentina’s Mendoza region. Vineyards here sit at around 750 metres and benefit from the powerful South American sun and cool mountain air that helps create balance in the grapes. The fruit for this wine comes mainly from the Doña Elsa Estate in Ram Caída, where the grapes are hand harvested to maintain their delicate berry aromas. Winemaker Facundo Pereyra left the wine unoaked so the clarity and quality of the fruit is at the fore.

About this bottle: This Sauvignon Blanc is from Nelson at the top of New Zealand’s south island. It is a different style to what most people associate with a classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, being more subtly aromatic than examples from neighbouring Marlborough. Nelson has long been known for the quality of its orchards, but is now turning out great wines that really show off the region's character. This wine was made by Trudy Shield at Waimea Estates, using high quality grapes from ten year old vines.
