WHAT TO WEAR WITH JEANS

They’re the most hardworking items in your wardrobe but, with some, ahem, jean-ius styling, your much-loved denims need not be the most predictable

Go for the double

Long gone are the days you were considered brave for donning the so-called ‘Canadian tuxedo’. Double denim is now a chic and easy way to get that coveted pulled-together look. Pop a relaxed-fit denim shirt, white tee and boyfriend jeans on your go-to weekend outfit list. If making a style statement is your priority, try the triple whammy – a fitted denim shirt tucked into a pair of straight-leg jeans and a denim jacket. Not for you? Swap the denim jacket for an oversized trench. To smarten it up, dark denim from head to toe is the way to go. Accessorise with a pair of on-point metallic stilettos.

Top choices

Like bangers and mash and Kermit and Miss Piggy, jeans and knits are perfect for each other. Elevate your usual jumper and jeans combo with the transitional top-half star – the short-sleeved knit. This pretty space-dye Per Una top would look great with a pair of flares, delicate jewellery and block-heeled clogs for a cool seventies’ vibe. Not dropping off the fashion radar any time soon is the long-time fashion favourite, the sleeveless knitted vest. Pop one over a long-sleeved roll-neck and relaxed-fit jeans for a layering win. Not convinced? Influencers far and wide are loving the sweetheart-neck knit. Wear the form-fitting style tucked into belted wide-leg jeans. This is decolletage-enhancing look – perfect for showing off your favourite necklaces.

Look sharp

We know this isn’t revolutionary, but when it comes to outfit combos, the classic jeans and blazer combo is the reach-for-and-go option for a reason. In fact, make that lots of reasons. Not only does the blazer’s layering potential make it the spot-on choice for all climes, it’s also so easy to throw on when the occasion calls for relaxed with a touch of polish. Elevate jeans and plain tees with a relaxed floral blazer or get ready for barrel loads of compliments with a candy-pink-coloured jacket. If you prefer a defined waist, a sleek belted blazer will balance out wide-leg jeans.
