HOW TO HAVE A SUMMER STAYCATION

Didn’t manage to snag so much as a weekend away for the summer holidays? Here’s how to get that been-away feeling even if you’re staying home

Upgrade your bedroom

White bed linen is calming and timeless, which makes it the go-to choice for five-star hotels. We’re particularly taken by this spotted white duvet set, seen here styled by @laura.elizabeth_. The textured spots add interest to the set, which is made from responsibly sourced cotton for extra feelgood vibes. Bumblebee bolster cushions continue the smart hotel feel, while an artificial fiddle leaf fig tree and straw basket add an on-trend natural touch. A scented candle maximises the chill factor for the ultimate staycation mood.

Have a five-star breakfast

Make the most of sunny mornings by having breakfast outside, just as you would on a summer holiday. Transform an overlooked area into an outdoor nook for eating and relaxing like @monicabeatrice, who gave her space a summer-ready makeover with comfy cushions and throws in a neutral colour palette. “This is my new favourite place to start the day: I love sitting out here in the morning – it gets the best light,” she says. Cover a table with a cloth or table runner, bring out a pot of coffee or a jug of juice and a platter of fruit or breakfast pastries served on our colourful picnicware.

Dine in style (no reservation required)

With just a little bit of effort, you can turn a mid-week meal into a five-star dining experience worthy of a staycation. Make like Lindsay from @lindsaysfeast and serve up a summery feast in classic white pasta dishes. Elevate the table with bistro-style tea towels repurposed as placemats and arrange a posy of seasonal blooms in a simple glass vase. If you’re celebrating, serve your favourite fizz in elegant champagne saucers.

Take a spa-style soak in the tub

A relaxing bath is an indulgent treat, whether you jump in the tub in the morning, at the end of the day or somewhere in between. Kayte of @simpleandseason is a fan of the daytime bath. “Something about it still being daytime just feels so opulent,” she says. With a few tweaks, you can upgrade a regular soak into a spa-style experience. Think fluffy new towels, chic bathroom accessories and luxurious bath salts and oils. Hang a do not disturb sign on the door to complete the hotel vibe.
