In this video guide, our homeware Insider Lydia Lloyd demonstrates her three go-to bedding hacks. They include: how to easily put your duvet cover on, how to dress your bed from top to bottom, and how to achieve that five-star-hotel look and feel at home
Want to know a speedy way to put your duvet cover on? Lydia demonstrates how to use the burrito roll method to effortlessly insert your duvet into the cover.
Step 1: Lay your duvet cover inside out on the bed and place your duvet directly on top.
Step 2: Roll the bed set cover and your duvet together towards the bottom of the bed and fold the corners of the cover over the rolled bedding.
Step 3: Fasten the buttons of your cover and unroll your bedding.
Step 4: Flip the duvet over so it's facing the correct way.
Lydia, accompanied by pooch Mali, shares her styling tips on how to make your bed from start to finish, including making sure the sheets stay put and accessorising with cushions and throws. Her top tips include :
Slip-free sheets: To ensure your bed sheets stay on the bed, opt for a deep fitted sheet as the extra material will reduce the risk of it slipping off the corners of the mattress. Remember to tuck the sheets properly under the bed.
Choose your colours: Once you’ve chosen your duvet set, pick out complementary colours for the back pillows as this helps give the bedding some contrast. Use a tonal colour scheme for the throws and cushions to finish off the look.
Goodbye creases: Keep creases out of your sheets and bedding by spraying them with a drop of fabric softener mixed with water and smoothing them over with your hand.
Plump your pillows: Plump the pillows and the duvet to get that soft-as-a-cloud look that you just want to dive straight into. Fold the top of the duvet cover back and throw a blanket on to the bed. Add a couple of cushions in front of your pillows for that final finishing touch.
If you’re dreaming of a cosy night at a five-star hotel, then turn your dreams into a reality with Lydia’s expert advice on transforming your bedroom into a luxurious retreat.
Guarantee a good night’s sleep by getting the basics right. At M&S, we have bedding to suit everybody, whether you’re looking for temperature control, luxurious Egyptian cotton or silky bamboo. Lydia loves our Supima sheet, which is made from a premium cotton to create a smoother, stronger fabric. Finish with the matching bedding set.
Light as a feather: Choose a feather-filled duvet and pillow to give your bedroom a luxurious upgrade. Duck and goose feather are soft, warm and breathable.
Know your togs: We all prefer different temperatures when we sleep – some like it hot, others like to cool things down. What tog you choose depends on your personal preference, but it’s useful to remember that the higher the tog, the warmer the duvet.
Nod off: We spend a lot of our time in bed, so don’t forget some special finishing touches. Try spraying your bed linen with a scented pillow spray for a calming scent that will help you drift off peacefully. Choose lighting that creates a restful atmosphere and try to avoid looking at screens for at least an hour before bed.
