Spiced baked figs
with orange mascarpone

Well worth it to easily double quantities when you have a glut of plump figs; delicious not only warm but chilled. Or try topping with creamy yogurt – a great start to the day!

  • 4 ripe figs, halved
  • 1 tbsp softened butter
  • 2 tbsp clear honey
  • 1 tbsp light muscovado sugar
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Zest and juice of 1 small orange
  • 1-2 star anise
  • 4-6 tbsp mascarpone

Ready in: 20 mins

Serves: 2

  1. Heat the oven to 200’C / Fan 180’C / Gas 6. Arrange the figs to snugly fit into a shallow ovenproof dish or small cake tin, tucking the star anise in amongst them. Dot over the butter and drizzle on the honey.
  2. Sprinkle on the cinnamon and sugar, pour on the orange juice. Roast for 15 – 20 minutes or until softened, tinged brown and slightly sticky.
  3. Meanwhile beat the mascarpone with enough zest to flavour and some honey to sweeten as desired. Chill until required.
  4. Remove the figs from the oven and leave to stand for 10 minutes before serving with the mascarpone.
