How to hang lights on your Christmas tree
Whether you’re going for classic warm white or bright white lights, or something a little more luxe, hanging Christmas tree lights horizontally is a tried-and-true method. Simply plug in your lights, then starting at the bottom of your tree, wrap them over and under the branches until you reach the top.
The vertical lights approach has become popular in recent years as it allows the lights to shine without branches getting in the way. Want to know how to put lights on a Christmas tree vertically? Start with the plugless end at the top of the tree and and stretch out the lights towards the bottom. Turn the lights back the other way and repeat, working your way around the tree in a sideways “S” pattern, then plug in your lights.

How to hang Christmas lights indoors
There’s no need to stop at the tree – why not continue the festive theme and display twinkling lights throughout your home? To hang Christmas lights around windows, on walls or from the ceiling, use hooks, adhesive putty or drawing pins to hold the wires in place, then simply adjust the lights until they sit where you want them. Top tip: make sure you check all the lights are working properly first, so you don’t have to undo all your efforts.
Want to know how to hang fairy lights without damaging the wall? Try winding them around banisters, draping them over a full-length mirror, or displaying them on your sideboard or mantelpiece – you could even intertwine them with a homemade Christmas garland.

How to hang Christmas lights outdoors
Make the most of your garden and impress your neighbours by creating a magical outdoor Christmas lights display. First, make sure you pick lights that are safe for garden use – our outdoor lights range is a good place to start.
