Pattern clash
Mixing and matching colourful, clashing patterns is a spirit-lifting move on dark winter days. Power-up your office look by wearing a double-breasted checked jacket and retro floral blouse with your favourite smart trousers. Or, get more mileage out of a ditsy floral dress by wearing it with a long-sleeved striped T-shirt, thermal tights and ankle boots now and, come spring, ditch the top and tights and swap out the boots for sandals.
Sweet spot
Polka dots are big for summer 2020, but you don’t have to wait until then to wear them. This midi dress will quickly earn its place in your closet. Put a cold-cancelling floral funnel-neck top underneath to add interest. This pleated skirt (coming soon) is a smart, season-straddling way to try the trend. For a winning weekend look, layer a long-sleeved polka-dot top under a cosy knit and team with checked pants and chunky sneakers.
Colour me happy
Blast away winter blues by adding some joy-inducing colour to your closet - we love this rose-coloured coat. Pant suits aren’t going anywhere for 2020, and pink is the colour to covet. Wear it to the office with a blouse and brogues or make it weekend casual with a white T-shirt and sneakers. Prefer a less matchy-matchy approach? Mix a blazer and wide-leg pants in different but complementary checks. Top tip: cinch the blazer at the waist with a contrasting belt.
