The easiest way to style matching sets of sweatshirts and sweatpants? Well, wear them together. The beauty of this look is in its simplicity, so adding contrasting shades like red and orange will add real interest. Nonchalantly layer over a vibrant orange sweatshirt a la the stylish ladies of Italy, or add a striped T-shirt under your hoodie allowing it to peek out at the neck or hem. Toughen things up with this season’s must-try hiker boots and snuggly socks. A practical backpack always looks good with co-ords, too.

Easy peasy layers

Not so keen on wearing matching hoodies and sweatpants? Swap the sweatpants for ultra-comfortable balloon jeans in a surprisingly versatile cream shade (the jeans also come in khaki if you change your mind on the matchy-matchy trend). This ‘new neutral’ palette works hard to transition your outfits from summer into fall. Add an oversized trench coat (this editor has already added one to her bag) with a handy detachable hood and sleek white sneakers to complete the look. Ready for brunch, the school run or dress-down day at the office in a flash.

The trend-led knit

Not quite ready to give up bare arms and summer vibes? Give the sweater-vest trend a go – a favourite of the fashion set for fall/winter 2021. A sleeveless knit takes the ultra-relaxed feel of the sweatpants and brings a certain elegance to the overall outfit. Pair khaki joggers with a cream sweater vest, or keep things co-ordinated with a navy sleeveless knit and matching sweatpants. Calf-high Chelsea boots and a beanie give the look a grungier finish, but you could easily swap in sneakers. When temperatures drop, layer over a camel coat – as loved by our international editor.
