Beach vacation on the horizon? There will be lots of things you’ll be looking forward to: sinking into the sun lounger with waves lapping gently a few metres away? Definitely. Packing the holiday wardrobe for the whole family beforehand? Not so much. Let our packing list take the stress out of it all

Hello, sun

Whether you prefer a beach-ballgame-ready one-piece or a chic two-piece for a spot of sun lounging with a good book, if you’re lucky enough to be heading for a week-long beach vacation, you’ll need at least three items of swimwear. This scoop-neck swimsuit comes in a variety of different patterns – from a playful red and pink print to a muted animal print. He can jump in and out of the water in these quick-dry swim shorts in on-trend ombré. Once the costumes are sorted, it’s time to get the sun protection in order. Protect your face and upper body with a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. Choose a light and flowy kaftan for grabbing a bite to eat or for a night out. For when you’re not at the beach, pack breathable clothing made from natural fabrics, such as T-shirts, shorts and summer dresses. Throw in a lightweight jacket for cooler evenings.

Resist the URGE to overpack – leave a bit of space for the souvenirs and emergency purchases

Pack and play

Here’s an idea: why not try letting the little ones pack their own stuff? OK. You might have just fallen off your chair but, hear us out. Getting children to choose their own clothing is a great way to get them involved, encourage independence and give them a sense of achievement. So, what to choose from? Shorts, tees and dresses that can be mixed and matched are a good idea. Plus, don’t forget the long-sleeved tops and leggings to keep them nice and cosy when they finally tire of splashing around in the water. Go for sun-blocking options where possible, such as this long-sleeved swimsuit made with Sun Smart UPF50+ fabric. Don’t forget sunglasses and hats with full UV protection. Lastly, this might not be an obvious one for the beach, but make sure they have footwear to protect their tootsies from painful pebbles and shells. Closed-toe jelly shoes will do the trick.

Make each suitcase a MIX of adults’ and kids’ clothing, so you’re covered if any luggage gets lost
