WEEE Recycling

What are WEEE recycling regulations in France?

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Decree (No. 2005-829) came into effect in France in 2005. This was designed to prevent and reduce the amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment going to landfill by promoting its re-use, recycling and disposal in an environmentally responsible manner.

A crossed-out wheelie bin symbol represents electrical and electronic products which should not be disposed of in the normal waste stream, but should be taken to an appropriate facility to enable their recovery and recycling.

What WEEE products can be taken back in M&S stores in France?

Waste electrical and electronic equipment take back is free of charge across all our France stores on a one-for-one basis, where equipment of a similar type is purchased in-store. To recycle your old items, simply hand them to a member of staff during your purchase.

Can WEEE products be recycled anywhere else?

Recycling centres set up by local authorities will also accept WEEE. To find your nearest recycling site, visit http://www.ecologic-france.com/recyclage-deee-particulier.html and type your postcode into the recycling bank locator.

What is Eco-tax?

The Eco-Tax or èco-participation is a fee worked into the cost of a product that goes into the recycling fund of an eco-organisation. This finances the collection and recycling of the WEEE product.

The fee is different depending on the type of EEE purchased. Different types of products are grouped under different ‘PAM’ codes – these correspond to a different cost as follows:

France EEE Code M&S Product Type Cost without VAT,EUR Cost with VAT,EUR
PAM01 Watches, Small Toys, Travel Alarm Clocks 0.0084 0.01
PAM02 Medium Clocks, Gadgets, Toys 0.03 0.04
