FITTING ADVICE GUIDE

  • WEEKS 1-17

Your breasts will probably be one of the first things you’ll notice changing when you’re newly pregnant. If you find your current bras don’t fit as well as they used to, head to an M&S store where our specially trained bra advisers will help you find a comfy and supportive maternity bra.

    Expert tip:

We recommend you stop wearing wired bras, as the wires can dig into sensitive breast tissue and trap milk ducts.

  • WEEKS 18-28

By now, you should have stopped wearing wired bras, had your first maternity bra fitting, and own a few comfortable maternity bras.

As the weeks go on and your bump grows, you may notice your bras getting tighter as your ribcage expands to accommodate your baby. This is a good time to have another maternity bra fitting.

    Expert tip:

You may also want to start wearing a soft sleeping bra at night to keep you comfortable and supported while you sleep.

  • WEEKS 29-40

You should have been for two fittings by now, and hopefully you’ve got maternity bras sussed.

You’ll need to go for your final maternity bra fitting at about 30 weeks as your bump and breasts continue to grow.

    Expert tip:

By this point, the average pregnant woman is two underbands and four cup sizes bigger than her normal bra size.

  • NURSING

About two weeks before your due date, you should get fitted for a nursing bra so you can get used to wearing it before your baby arrives. Keep in mind that it will need to be one cup size bigger for when the milk comes into your breasts.

    Expert tip:

All M&S nursing bras have easy-to-use drop-down cups to make it easier if you’re breastfeeding.

  • POST-NURSING

Whether you choose to breastfeed or bottle-feed your baby, your breasts will eventually stop producing milk and start to return to their pre-pregnancy size. This is the perfect time to pop into an M&S store for another bra fitting, where our expert bra advisers will recommend the right size and style to keep your breasts supported and looking great.
