Jeneve Williams is our specialist in the wines of Italy, South America, her native New Zealand and the Eastern Mediterranean. She studied Viticulture & Oenology at Adelaide University, and then went on to work for prestigious sparkling wine producers both in her home country and in California.
“Brazil has some really diverse terroirs, each of which is producing very distinctive wines”
Jeneve’s knowledge of wine spans the globe, and she has pitched her personal favourite – the Sicilian grillo – from Italy. A bright and juicy grape variety that produces fresh, lemon-scented wines ‘perfect for al fresco dining’ she says. This wine has wonderful depth of flavour. Serve it well chilled and match it with bold ingredients and dishes such as bacon, smoked duck or with barbecued pork or prawns. Try other Italian varieties like classic chianti and fresh verdicchio, or why not go further afield with our selection of Brazilian wines?
British-born winemaker Sue Daniels has focused on sparkling wine and champagne for over 20 years. For M&S, she specialises in wines from Spain, Portugal, South Africa and the Champagne and Burgundy regions France, as well as our range of English wines.
“Rich reds from southern France and northern Spain are always a good match for chargrilled meats, which makes them perfect for summer barbecues”
Sue’s personal favourite, the Fleurie, hails from the Bourgogne region of France. She recommends serving lightly chilled and says ‘this great light-bodied red is ideal for picnics in summer’. The wine is a great match for crudités and charcuterie, as well as soft cheeses. Try our extensive French range, which covers regions from Champagne to Bordeaux, or enjoy discovering British wines for a homegrown tipple.
Belinda Kleinig is our specialist in the wines of France, Australia, the USA and Germany. After studying Viticulture & Oenology at Adelaide University, she went on to work in several French and Californian wine regions before joining the M&S team.
“Try new varietals and regions, like our German Palataia pinot noir, as often as you can. We work with local winemakers to select or blend wines that are always of a high quality”
Belinda’s favourite is a chardonnay from her home country. ‘Rich and buttery’, Margaret River is specially blended for M&S in Western Australia. Its full flavour suits something robust and flavourful like a Thai green curry or roast chicken, while fresh peach and lemon notes lend it to fish dishes. Try some of the other award-winning wines to come out of the Antipodes too, or give Germany’s light and refreshing wines a go.
