Pure Cotton Smudged Spotted Nightdress

Bought for my mother she loves it.

Bought this for my elderly mum, having purchased similar (or so I thought) before. I was disappointed by the selection of nightdresses suitable for older ladies this season, in comparison with last autumn, when there were plenty of pretty styles and good fabrics; chose this and a short-sleeved pink one as the best of a not-very-inspiring bunch. There's nothing in the description to clarify that this is cotton jersey (tee shirt material), not woven cotton - this applies to many styles on this site (photos don't show enough detail either); and I don't know why this colour is called "Apple", when it's blue. The fabric is very thick for a nightie (almost sweatshirt weight), and the white spots are a faded print that makes the material look dirty. The description says "below the knee" and is shown on a model who appears to be above average height. Mum & I are only 5' 0" (she's a bit less), so I ordered the "short" length, thinking even that would be comfortably below the knee, but in fact this was extremely short. Barely reaches the knee on me (even shorter than the supposedly "ankle-length" short-sleeved one I also ordered, which is also massively different to the proportions in the photo). Due to the thickness of the fabric, it also sits awkwardly on the shoulders. The embroidery around the neck is quite pretty, but that's the best point. I would have returned this, if I'd had time to find a better alternative, but it was a birthday gift. It's OK, but nothing more.

A beautifully made night dress. Superb yoke facing making the night dress sit well. A slight stretch makes it very comfortable. Standard length for my mother means cosy legs in winter. A quality item and would be excellent if M&S made this in other colours. Worth every penny!!
