TREND ALERT:

HOW TO WEAR GREEN OUTFITS

St Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and, as luck would have it, green clothes are a must-wear this season. From shamrock separates to Luigi green suiting and kelly green accessories – the outfit options are endless

GO FOR ALL GREEN

Green might seem like a tricky colour to pull off, but if you follow a few basic rules it needn’t be daunting. If you're mixing your greens, stick to similar tones: cooler hues such as mint, seafoam and pistachio work well together, as do warmer shades like khaki, olive and basil. On the other hand, a combination of pea, neon and fern might get you noticed for all the wrong reasons.

There’s one sure-fire way to make green sing, and that’s by pairing it with contrasting colour accessories – such as a fun pair of pink mules or our editor-approved baby pink sneakers. On the colour wheel, greens sit directly opposite orange, pink and red (though we’d perhaps steer clear of the latter if you don’t want to look like Christmas has come early). Punchy pink looks great with shamrock green, while juicy orange sets off the cooler tones of mint or sage. If you’re still feeling the chill, try green pants with a show-stopping pink hoodie – comfort and style all in one. If you’re heading to work on the big day, try a top-to-toe hunter green romper paired with your favourite heels.

SUPER NEUTRALS

If a pared-back palette is more your style, muted green clothing works brilliantly with black, cream, tan, white and grey. For those of you celebrating at home, our ultra-comfortable sweatpants, hoodies and loungewear in a range of sumptuous neutral shades are a must. They also make the perfect base for a statement green coat or vibrant cross-body purse on that post-lunch walk. Come the long weekend, you can’t go wrong with a pure cashmere sweater and jeans. Add a green faux-leather jacket to complete the look.

Alternatively, keep things smart by teaming a soft khaki romper or floaty forest green dress with chunky black boots or a sea-green shirt with luxurious cream pants and sneakers or funky flats. Layer over a cosy oversized camel coat if temperatures drop while attending your local parade.

A HINT OF TINT

Keen to dip your toe into the trend? Give statement accessories the green light. From kelly green ballet pumps, seen at Molly Goddard, to shamrock bucket hats at Adam Lippes and sculptural grass-coloured heels at Bottega Veneta, green finishing touches are big news this season. Take inspiration from street style and try pairing a racing green cross-body purse with our amazing-value sweatpant and sweater sets in neutral hues. Give your look a subtle spin with hats, scarves and jewellery. When you’re ready to take the trend up a notch, just remember to stick to similar tones.
