“I’m confident our choice represents a great selection of the Chateaux from the 2014 vintage. I hope customers will love the idea of being able to buy a few single bottles of special wines to keep for years to come.”
Expect a mix of great value wines from classic appellations like Chateau Plince, Pomerol and iconic names including Chateau Langoa Barton, St Julien and the Rothschild's flagship Chateau Lafite.
According to Emma Dawson, Bordeaux are some of the greatest wines to age. "Grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc or Petit Verdot have a thick skin, which means more tannin – the component that makes wine feel textured and full bodied. The climate they're grown in is warm, but moderated by sea winds, so the grapes get ripe but stay fresh tasting. Wines with these bold structures and fresh flavours mellow the best with age, to open out and taste far more complex," Emma explains. Discover her picks from the range that are made for ageing.
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, this really needs another five years to start developing its complex flavours and will continue to open out for at least 17 years.
Another staple Chateau of the Bordeaux lover’s cellar – the high level of Cabernet in this blend gives it immense power and depth that offers potential for many years of ageing. Best drunk in 10 to 30 years.
Wines from this renowned Chateau display all the hallmarks of classic high-quality Bordeaux. With age, its characters of dark fruit, minerality and fresh eucalyptus will combine even more harmoniously. Best drunk in eight to 25 years.
The Tesseron family who own this Chateau employ biodynamic techniques. They move the wine as little as possible and age some without oak to retain its purity. A unique wine with polish that's likely to drink well in five years, but has 30 years ageing potential.
