Watch our flower expert Simon Richards discuss the creation of the garden
M&S is delighted to have been awarded a Silver Gilt medal at the 2014 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. This year we've created a bright and beautiful display to show how flowers and plants work in harmony with pollinators and insects, “nature’s hidden heroes”. The garden's centrepiece is a wonderful oversized bouquet, featuring roses, carnations, sunflowers and alliums, standing on a bug hotel, the base of which is filled with green foliage and nesting holes. The judging criteria were the quality of the plants, the information provided, the overall impression of the garden and the level of endeavour.
In making their decision the judges commended the colour and texture of our planting, the clarity of information for visitors and the theatre, creativity and overall design of our display. Simon Richards, M&S Product Developer, is delighted with the judges' decision. "I'm thrilled that we've been awarded a Silver Gilt medal in our second year at Chelsea," he said. "Visitors seem to be loving our theme of nature's hidden heroes and it's a pleasure to see how many photos have been taken of the sunflower 'field' and bee hive already!".
