Complex and fleshy, this old-vine Rioja has a captivating bouquet and a finely structured fruity palate with lingering flavours.
Produced in the Rioja Alavesa area of the region, where the microclimate is perfect for growing healthy Tempranillo grapes, this traditional Rioja offers good complexity and balance. Protected from the north winds by the Sierra de Cantabria mountains, the Alavesa area is warmer and sunnier than the rest of the region. The Tempranillo grapes were sourced from a number of vineyard microplots where the established mature vines are around 70 years old. The vines lie on south-facing slopes at over 500 metres, growing on sandy, free-draining soils that naturally reduces grape yields. Grapes were carefully sorted in the winery after a relatively late October harvest, after which winemaker Ruth Rodriguez vinified the wine in stainless steel tanks before maturing it in French oak barrels for 12 months.
