A MATCH MADE IN DENIM

From the changes in your body after you’ve had a baby to trying out a brand new denim trend, your relationship with your jeans is constantly evolving. Charlene Barton shows you how to find the perfect pair, whatever stage you’re at

The post-pregnancy jeans

Getting back to your pre-baby body is no mean feat. You want to look and feel your best again, but when your time is limited and your little bundle of joy demands attention, fitting in to your favourite skinny jeans doesn’t exactly rank as a priority.

For a quick-fix solution, try a pair of jeggings – think super-comfy, stretchy fabric, a slimming dark wash and a mid- or high-rise waist to keep everything neatly tucked. It may not sound like the height of fashion, but when your legs look longer and your stomach flatter, people will soon be asking just how your body bounced back so quickly.

Leg-lengthening jeggings are ideal while you get your post-baby body back

The ageless jeans

Of all the trends in the fashion sphere, denim is one that doesn’t discriminate. But as you get older, it’s important to keep trying new fits, washes and shapes – you’ll be amazed how fresh and stylish an updated silhouette or colour can look.

The must-have style for autumn is the wide leg style, tapping into the ongoing Seventies vibe (add a floaty boho blouse if you want to take on the look from top-to-toe). Another great option is coloured denim, especially white for winter. It’s crisp, fresh and looks incredibly sleek with a monochrome palette, day or night.

The boyfriend jeans

Fashion’s love affair with slouchier, boyish denim doesn’t seem to be waning anytime soon. A firm favourite with style editors across the globe, the allure of looking relaxed, nonchalant and totally comfortable in what could be your boyfriend’s jeans has become completely irresistible.

Pair them with the right pieces (a white shirt always looks great) and you’ll be surprised by how elegant the results are. A crucial tip: if you’re dressing them up, make sure you wear pointed or open-toe heels as they’ll help to elongate your legs.
