      Gazzera Pinot Grigio

      Vintage: 2011

Fragrant, grapefruity white, brimming with peach and pepper aromatics. There's a real zing of citrus on the palate too, with black pepper, crunchy green apples and a nervy tang of liquorice and minerals at the finish. This is Pinot Grigio with a serious side, and plenty of structure for matching with food.

About this bottle: Pinot Grigio found fame in northern Italy but this delicious white proves that this sprightly grape variety can be just as at home in the sunny south - in Sicily. Winemakers Carlo Caprarotta and Mattia Filippi combine their skills and knowledge of the local countryside to make it really shine. They plant on soils high in gypsum which bring out this grape's minerality. Carlo and Mattia are keen to represent this territory and all its wine traditions, so they have named their wines 'Gazzera' after an ancient baglio, or rural house, in the district.

      Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Grigio

      Country of origin: Italy

      Region: Sicily

      5 Vallées Grenache Vermentino

      Vintage: 2011

Light, crisp white, with fresh grassy aromas and gorgeous hints of melon, grapefruit and green apple. A mouth-watering wine that really lingers on the palate, and finishes with a tang of bitter lemon.

About this bottle: Winemaker Jean-Claude Mas is very keen to bring authentic Languedoc grapes and flavours to everyday wine-lovers. By blending these two varieties - 70% Grenache Blanc and 30% Vermentino - he is skillfully showing the typically wild, herby flavours of this landscape. The grapes are fermented separately, at low temperatures, and need no oak to show at their best. Grenache Blanc brings citrus and herb flavours to the blend, and Vermentino is famous for its crisp apple.

Grape Variety: 70% Grenache Blanc, 30% Vermentino

      Country of origin: France

      Region: Languedoc

      • El Circulo Rioja Blanco

      Vintage: 2011

Full of light, lively butter and melon aromas then peach and pineapple on the palate, this is a characterful dry white in a real food-matching style. Expect a mineral tang, and a clean, crisp finish keeping this wine moreish and tongue-tingling all the way through.

About this bottle: Winemaker Antolin González was just 24 when he started making wine and has spent most of his career here in Rioja, crafting some of the most famous wines in the world. This white, from Viura grapes, is a lesser-known speciality: one of the region's hidden treasures. It benefits hugely from the cooling Atlantic and Mediterranean breezes that both arrive here to temper the natural heat of the day. Antolin leaves this white on its yeast lees to give it spicy richness.

      Grape Variety: 100% Viura

      Saint Martin Bordeaux

      Vintage: 2011

Elegantly structured red with juicy plum and cherry aromas and a firm, mineral finish. This is a serious Bordeaux, full of classic blackcurrant notes from the tangy Cabernet Sauvignon grape, and lingering fruitiness.

About this bottle: Winemaker Jean-Pierre Placidi has been in charge at Château Saint-Martin since 1990, when he took over from his parents. Jean-Pierre is a firm believer in the fine traditions of Bordeaux and the grape balance in this blend (45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc) reflects this. The Saint-Martin vineyards lie on clay-limestone slopes in Massugas, not far from the major hub of Bordeaux.

      • El Circulo Rioja Red

      Vintage: 2011

Elegant and supple Rioja, with sweet, creamy morello cherry aromas, smokey blackcurrants mid-palate, and a lightly spiced, liquorice finish. This is a mouth-watering red for spicing up a spring evening.

About this bottle: Antolin González uses 100% Tempranillo for this bold Rioja, a decision well justified by the array of awards and medals the wine has won. Tempranillo is a core feature of any red Rioja but it doesn't always stand alone. Antolin ferments this wine in stainless steel vats and keeps its temperature low, so that as many grape aromas and characters as possible are preserved. In this way El Circulo's Rioja maintains its vigorous purple colour and mouthwatering freshness.

      Grape Variety: 100% Tempranillo

      Country of origin: Spain

      Region: Rioja

      Doma Chardonnay

      Vintage: 2011

Smooth, silky Chardonnay with vivid orange and grapefruit notes and a lively fresh-apple finish. This is a juicy, mouth-watering white that really lasts on the palate, and tantalises with a tang of spicy white peach too.

About this bottle: Winemaker Sergio Cuadra has unparalleled experience in making Chilean wine and knows that this Chardonnay shows its best expression when fresh, young and unoaked. The ripening season was rain free which gave the finest conditions for an optimum harvest. Grapes were selected from the best clusters on the vine in order to maximize flavour. Harvesting took place only during the early morning hours to keep the grapes cool and preserve aromas.

      Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay

      Country of origin: Chile

      Region: Central Valley
