What has happened to the size??
My daughter, who is 8, has had this pinafore for the past two years and loves it! She is very petite and has been wearing size 4-5. However, she has finally grown and so I sized up to 6-7. The length is perfect but what on earth is going on with the rest of the size?! It is absolutely enormous around her chest. I'm normally happy to do a little nip and tuck here and there but I need to take it in, on both sides, by a couple of inches. It looks ridiculous! She is so disappointed that it doesn't fit and that it's going back.
Please think about the different shapes of girls when designing dresses. You do different fit trousers, why not dresses?

Lovely school dress but ...
My granddaughter is a a slim, normal height 7 year old. I ordered this dress based on the picture of the young girl modelling it. She's quite slim and the dress looked fitted on her. The dresses I've been sent Are way too wide and don't have the fitted look of the one shown. I've checked the label to see whether I've inadvertently been sent perhaps the plus size (not even sure they do one). I'm very disappointed as the dresses are lovely (as always), but the width on the ones received are ridiculous. I've measured them against the M&S size 6-7 years she's currently wearing and they're just over 3 inches wider at the arm pits. Sadly, they've been returned. I'd still recommend the product, but not to someone with a slim child!!

Excellent quality!!
This is the third year I have bought this pinafore for my daughter and I love it!! It looks very smart, is comfortable on her and the quality of the material is excellent. It washes very easily and still looked as good as new at the end of the school year with no bobbling or fading or loss of shape. The permanent pleats are a real bonus - I usually just give the pleats a little tug after a wash to straighten them, dry on a hanger and there is very little ironing required. It also keeps its shape between washes and doesn't crease at the back or flatten the pleats when sitting in the classroom. Highly recommended!

Poor size and shape - very disappointed
My 10 year old daughter is slightly smaller than average for her age so I do sometimes have to buy clothing one size smaller, but for school uniform obviously want it to last as long as possible. With this in mind I purchased the age 8-9 hoping it would have enough growing room but it was way too big, so ordered the age 7-8. Perfect in length but was still huge around her waist. In fact age 5-6 fit her perfectly around the waist but was way to short! I have the same problem with my average sized 6 year old son - shirts and trousers are massive around his waist. Please M&S sort your sizes out or at least have a LOT more stock of slim sizes - it's no wonder they are always out of stock!

So pretty
I'm buying uniform for the first time as my daughter starts in September. I bought this when they had the 20% off and wish I'd bought another. They are really pretty and look very smart. My daughter is really happy and likes the style.
She is 5 in September and average size so I opted for the 4-5 as I didn't want it to be too long for her. It fits really well, not too long but room to grow. Think I will get the next size up aswell. Great quality and it has a nicer look than some of the supermarket ones. Would recommend.

Great quality
This is a really good quality dress. I can say that with certainty because I then went on to get the other option of buying 2 dresses for £12. See that review if you want but essentially these dresses here are far superior with strong material and fit well. If you have the money and know you need them to last I would highly recommend buying this dress (one of my daughters grows so fast she needs two dresses a season so the cheaper ones are more cost-effective; the other wears hers over two years…). Can recommend these.

Great Pinafore
Bought age 6-7 for start of school year (for girl age 5) thinking it would last until Xmas - almost managed but have had to buy in 7-8 to get her through next term. Will probably need to get another one March time to see through to end of school year. Fit and length seems comfortable enough but waist could be slightly bigger to make it last a wee bit longer. Had heard that M&S sizes have changed quite a lot and I think this could be a factor. Overall delighted with quality of material, price and style of pinafore. Would not consider any other retailer for this product.

Were lovely navy pinafores until they faded
I bought two of these pinafores in navy back in July ready for when my daughter started school in September. She is of a very slim build and below average height for a 5 year old so I opted for age 3-4 which fitted her perfectly and she looked really smart.
It's now six months on and there's still plenty of room for growth in them. However, after washing and ironing them on a low setting inside out they have both faded. I am disappointed at the colour quality of these pinafore dresses and would have expected them to have lasted the whole school year for the price, but now I need to order replacements.
