There seemed to be a raging debate among the reviews as to whether these shoes fit. One problem is that the same model is split (as with M&S suede ballerina pumps) between sizes up to 8 and then another category from 8 to 9. Actually there are 3-4 categories for this same shoe 1) Leather Tassel Boat Shoes from 3-8, 2) Wide Fit Leather Tassel Boat Shoes, version 1 sizes 3-8, 3) Wide Fit Leather Tassel Boat Shoes, version 2 sizes 8.5-9. Since only the larges versions fit, one is deprived of some of the colours available in smaller sizes. Some customers complain about no size 9, scroll down (or up) and you may find a larger size though you may only be able to get it online.
Based on the conflicting reviews that these shoes were narrow, I felt I may have to return, but surprise, surprise they fit, even though they look narrow. The design allows expansion and the leather, over time seems to accommodate as well.
Maybe a tad wider could have worked but the snug fit appears somewhat elastic. M&S do not distinguish in particular between the numbers of Es possible after size (E to EEE). The returns policy helps you to try what could work, if you have an idea of your size.
As such, these are like soft, leather, kid gloves for feet. They fit a lot better without any socks or tights and are designed to look good as such though sheer tights may work. They are ideal for walking and driving and I've taken long walks in the park on tarmac wearing them and shopping trips by foot.
The shoes are attractive (navy with brown side laces and tassels), somewhat gender neutral though quite feminine and very practical as well as attractive. They could do for work as well as shopping and at their price, represent high quality soft shoes that really work with the feet keeping them both cool and warm and neither looking over or under dressed. I've worn them with M&S Sienna jeans in particular. I only wish there were more colours in the larger sizes available.
They could come with care instructions for a shoe quite attractive though durable - maybe spray on wax may work with the navy ones.
Though a tad expensive, a similar shoe that fits and is available in this range and quality in size from narrow to wide fit would be hard to find. Cheaper version by other retailers are man-made rather than real soft leather. Any more expensive than this and they'd be beyond my budget anyway.
I love the way you can wear them for walks and shopping and they are so convenient to slip on and off, and also, soft and comfortable. Maybe more for living in, rather than a stressful work environment. Really pleased with the design and purchase and how they fit into my routine.
