WEAR IT YOUR WAY:
OUR TOP GOODMOVE PICKS

From squeezing a workout into a busy schedule to exercising for the mental health benefits, M&S staffers share their approach to fitness, and how Goodmove helps them along the way

ELLIE SPICER, INTERNATIONAL EDITOR

Pre-pandemic, I regularly attended exercise classes, but during the first lockdown I did nothing and felt very lethargic. Since the second lockdown, I ensure I have a daily workout, either running outside or an online class, such as yoga on YouTube. Yoga has excellent physical and mental health benefits – I have found that regular exercise helps me to maintain mental balance. If I’m feeling anxious, 15 minutes of yoga and breathing will calm me down. If I feel down, going for a gentle jog outside will help to lift my mood. For me, my gym kit also must be comfortable, supportive and adaptable: I want to be able to wear the same leggings to run, weight train or do yoga, and the Goodmove Go Move leggings offer that.

As a husband and a father of two, the best time for me to work out is early morning before everyone wakes up. I’m able to get more done with no distractions as the gym is usually empty at that time of the day. Exercise has really helped me mentally. It clears my mind and makes me more focused in my daily activities. My top motivation tip is to focus on the process, rather than the result, and have fun. There will be ups and downs but you have to keep going even if you aren’t seeing instant results; getting fitter takes a lot of patience and consistency. Recently, I’ve focused more on strength training and endurance, which has been a real game-changer for me. When I’m at the gym, I find Goodmove clothes very comfortable, and I love the fit.

My husband and I split childcare 50-50, which means I have the mornings before work free to exercise. Whether it’s a spin class, swim or run, I like to schedule my workouts in at the beginning of the week, so I don’t have to think too hard at 6.30am. I love the endorphin high you get from a workout, and I certainly notice my mood is lower if I haven’t exercised for a few days. I tend to do a lot of high-intensity exercise, so I look for clothes with specially designed performance fabrics and plenty of stretch. I’ve tried out some pretty expensive fitness brands in my time, and always found that Goodmove offers me the same quality and feel at a fraction of the price.
