A well balanced Syrah ripe with dark bramble fruit aromas and deeper notes of spice and sun baked earth. In the mouth it is surprisingly fresh, with a fine acidity and medium tannins giving the palate a good structure.
For this wine, owner and winemaker Wells Gutherie sourced a parcel of fine Syrah grapes from south-facing organically-farmed vineyards just outside Boonville in the Anderson Valley. The 2012 vintage was particularly good here, with a slow, even ripening season and a long Indian summer, creating excellent ripeness in the grapes. The fruit was harvested by hand to keep the bunches intact, and after fermentation the wine was finished in mature French oak barrels to soften and develop it further.
