WAY TO PARTY
From cocktail parties to office celebrations and black-tie balls, the velvet jacket is taking over special occasions. Here’s why…
Picture the scene: low, soft lights warm the corners of a wood-panelled room. A pianist’s carols entwine with the hum of conversation and laughter. Guests are captivated by a dashing chap (who looks suspiciously like David Gandy) telling a story. He sips an amber-hued Scotch chilled by stones, not ice. His shoes are perfectly polished; his jacket cut from a deep burgundy velvet. Its plush feel and rich tones are suitably seasonal – just combine with black trousers and either a white shirt and bow tie or, my personal favourite, a roll-neck jumper, for your most suave special-occasion look ever.
