Editor’s Pick: the insiders’ must-haves

Start your night right – it’s time for double-breasted blazers to step out from the shadows

I’ve been waiting all year for this moment. The nights are drawing in as lights start to twinkle against the deep black backdrop of crisp nights out full of promise and excitement. No? Just me? Well, even if you’re not a frustrated poet like I am, this velvet double-breasted blazer is still a suave style statement for drinks, dinners and, whisper it, Christmas parties. The DB was considered a bit fuddy-duddy but is back with a bang thanks to its sense of occasion and flattering shape. A white shirt is the most obvious companion, but smart, plain crew-neck T-shirts and knits take the edge off the formality, while a merino wool roll-neck is an elegant alternative to a full dickie-bow look.
