A heady fragrance with the power to seduce? Luxury fragrance house Shay & Blue may just have created it, writes Jess Clark
The word “belladonna” is derived from the Italian for “beautiful woman”, and it’s the key ingredient in boutique perfumery Shay & Blue’s mesmerising Atropa Belladonna eau de parfum. Also known as deadly nightshade, the herbaceous plant has a long and fascinating history, including uses as a poison, a hallucinogen and a healing plant. It was even used in eye drops by Venetian women in the 17th century to dilate the pupils, making them appear seductive to would-be suitors – which gives some insight into the type of scent Shay & Blue has created. A complex, feminine fragrance with main accords of vanilla, belladonna and patchouli, it has a heady, inviting finish – perfect for bringing out the inner seductress in you. Keep a bottle by the bedside or the chic purse-size version in your handbag for an anytime feminine flourish.
