Fashion journalist Laura Craik on the dress that solves every weather-related style crisis
Britain is a country where you frequently leave the house dressed appropriately, only to find yourself – come lunchtime – freezing then boiling, wondering why they can put a man on the moon yet fail to nail a daily forecast. I love this dress firstly because it’s navy, and navy is always chic, but also because its mid-calf length doesn’t look dowdy, as this length so often can. On colder days, it would look lovely with knee-length boots; for a sunny day, flat sandals: it can take a punchy design (like these fab pom-pom flats and matching bag) – the brighter and crazier, the better. Oh, and I love the elegant fluted sleeves: cleverly, they’re elbow length, meaning no trailing into your dinner.
