Man wearing white and blue vertical stripe T-shirt

Editor’s Pick: the insiders’ must-haves

One small change can make a big difference

I’m not normally an advocate of messing around with the classics – if it ain’t broke and all that – which is why my wardrobe is full of slim chinos, plain Oxford-collar shirts and two-button blazers. But every now and then, along comes a style that switches up a timeless piece in just the right way. And this T-shirt definitely made me sit up and take notice. A Breton striped tee is a men’s essential but this one has a new angle: the vertical rather than horizontal bands. While they’re a fresh update, stripes arranged this way have the added bonus of being slimming – particularly handy if, like me, you like a bit of help in that area.
