Whether it’s a Christmas knit, smart suit or full-on sparkle, kidswear editor Charlotte Duck sets the scene for the festive season with these glitzy, child-friendly party looks
If it’s your baby’s first Christmas, you – or your parents – won’t be able to resist dressing them up. Velvet is everywhere and it’s hardwearing, making it a great choice for baby girl frocks. For boys, choose a smart shirt and trousers, but make them extra special with braces and a bow tie. With babies, you need to think practically as well as sartorially – inevitably they’re going to get covered in something, so, as well as being adorable, you’ll want their outfit to be machine washable too.
“WHATEVER you decide
to put them in, make
sure it’s comfortable”
Christmas gives you the perfect excuse to put girls in some really cute partywear. If you prefer a more traditional style, opt for a navy Peter-Pan-collar prom dress or seasonal tartan with a thread of gold running through. Festive jumpers have stolen the fashion spotlight of late and it’s easy to dress them up for Christmas morning with a smart skirt.
“She’ll LOVE adding
to her party look”
Older kids tend to have very definite ideas about what they wear, especially when it comes to dressing up. For girls, a prerequisite for partywear is something that sparkles so go big on sequins, glitter and anything with a metallic finish. Boys tend to be more subtle but may be persuaded to experiment with a grown-up look such as a roll-neck jumper or a velvet jacket with jeans.
