KAT FARMER’S SUMMER PICKS

Kat Farmer from Does My Bum Look 40 shares her warm-weather wardrobe favourites

Max out on style

“When it comes to summer style, a maxi skirt definitely deserves its place in your wardrobe. Dress yours up with a blouse – this broderie anglaise one would also look fantastic with jeans – or dress down with a simple tee. M&S leather trainers are so comfy they’re about as near to wearing slippers out of the house as you can get. And the skirt will also work when the weather turns colder this winter; just add an oversized jumper and boots and you’ve got the perfect year-round addition to your wardrobe. Plus, did I mention it’s got pockets?”

The joy of dresses

“Dresses are the easiest thing to wear in summer. There’s no tricky matching – you can just throw on a frock and go. This one is perfect for holiday or home, with a loose, peasant-style shape in a subtle paisley print. I love the tiny, covered buttons and balloon sleeves. Suede ankle boots will take the dress into autumn with style, and I love it accessorised with a print-clashing bag.”

Playing the blues

“The Seventies are alive and kicking with this vintage-inspired denim midi dress. It’s made from the softest, drapiest fabric, making it feel like an old favourite from years gone by. I love the feminine detailing added by the frills. It’ll be a joy to wear for autumn, but right now I’m going full summer by teaming it with a raffia backpack for a modern take on a classic trend.”

Prints divine

“Team a printed dress like this with ankle boots and a sun hat for summer, then update with knee-high boots and a biker jacket for autumn. A top tip when you’re investing in your wardrobe is to think about the versatility of your clothes. Trans-seasonal items are the ones that will pay off when you consider cost per wear.”
