Cool silhouette

“I’ve styled these with longer-length cover-ups as I love that silhouette, but they also look great with shorter styles like a biker or denim jacket.”

With more than 10,000 followers on Instagram, Style Memos founder Alexis Foreman is known among her fan base for her effortless style.

Check out her beautifully curated feed and you’ll quickly discover the mum of three’s signature uniform: wide-leg trousers (be it denim jeans or tailored) teamed with longline tops and cool flats.

Here, she shares her top five reasons why no wardrobe is complete without a pair of culottes:

1. They flatter all figures:
“Culottes, otherwise known as cropped wide-leg trousers, suit all kinds of body shapes. Depending on the area of your figure that you want to accentuate (or detract from), wear them with either a loose or snug-fitting top.”

2. They’re versatile enough for work or a wedding:
“A style investment that can be worn for most occasions. I recently

wore some culottes to a wedding with a dressy blouse, and regularly wear the same pair to work styled with a Breton top or white shirt.”

3. They combine comfort with style:
“Let’s be honest, we all have days when we don’t fancy wearing anything too figure hugging. Culottes are ideal for this because they’re comfortable without sacrificing style.”

4. They’ll save you time getting dressed:
“As a busy mum I find it’s best to keep it simple when planning outfits. Culottes can make a fashion statement even when worn with the most basic T-shirt and trainers.”

5. They’re at the height of fashion:
“I always aim to create a silhouette that feels relevant to the season when I put together my outfits. Start with a pair of culottes and your look will instantly feel cooler.”

“I love a minimal colour palette but if you want to inject a subtle punch to your look, try this cross-body patchwork bag.”
“Why not make a statement in leather culottes? They’re a luxurious take on the style and feel amazing on. Wear with a trench”
“This trouser shape looks great with brogues. Add a simple tee and a long waistcoat to accentuate height.”
“I’m such a fan of trainers. They’re definitely my go-to shoe when I’m rushing from the school run to the office.”
“If you’re looking to dress up your outfit, try a pair of block-heel sandals to keep it fresh.”
“Earthy shades allow great accessories to shine. This khaki and tan contrast feels fresh for the season.”
