HOW TO WEAR
HOLLY’S MUST-HAVES

We asked five in-the-know women from M&S head office to show how they will be styling Holly Willoughby’s new collection

Dare to wear leather and bold colour

“I’m the least likely of my colleagues to rock up to the office wearing a leather skirt, but this modern-looking midi has me converted. The cut is more forgiving and wearable than I would ever have expected. This electric-blue coat makes a change from my regular winter palette of black, grey and navy. It’s an investment piece that will work all year round: it’s lightweight and roomy so you can add a chunky knit when it’s cold or throw on over a white tee in spring. The ribbed polo neck and vibrant yellow bag are easy ways to add colour to your winter wardrobe.”

Invest in chic staples with a twist

“I feel sophisticated in this outfit thanks to the sleek camel coat and indigo denim jeans. The coat is just the kind of clean-lined, unfussy piece that will really earn its keep in my wardrobe. I always wear skinny jeans, so this wide-legged style is a real change for me, but I like how comfortable it is. It’s easy to tuck tops into the fitted high-rise waistband to create a flattering ‘nipped in’ effect. The cropped length is great for showing off your shoes: these comfy teal boots are great for smarter occasions, but I would dress the jeans down with trainers for the weekend.”

Embrace the return of the suit

“I used to wear a suit every day for work and had forgotten just how versatile a two-piece can be. The beige colour makes a positive change to my usual black and grey, and nods to the catwalk trend. I’ll get a lot of wear out of it by styling the pieces as separates: the jacket would look great on its own with jeans, as would the trousers teamed with a pretty blouse. These boots have just the right type of heel to add height while remaining comfortable enough to wear all day.”

Master day-to-night dressing

“This blouse features a fun spotty print in lovely jewel tones that are perfect for winter. I like the statement sleeves and silky soft fabric. The fitted cuffs have concealed zips to amplify the volume of the sleeve, which is a thoughtful detail. I would wear it tucked into high-waisted jeans or with a pleated midi skirt, like this. A black midi is an absolute no-brainer for my wardrobe – it will go with everything, from a smart blouse to a chunky knit. The knot-front velvet mules are a nice finishing touch and the clever inbuilt Insolia technology means they are comfy enough to wear on the go.”

Go wild for animal print

“This dress feels rather glamorous in an old-fashioned sort of way. It is sexier than it first appears with a daring split in the middle. The shape is flattering and easy to wear and I like it styled with a cream polo-neck top underneath. (Which, coincidentally, is an easy layering hack for beginners.) Animal print is everywhere this season and tiger stripes offer a new take on the trend. I would style this dress with high-cut heels for the office but can also see it working with trainers and a quilted jacket as a casual look for the weekend.”
