OFF-DUTY
STYLE
MADE EASY

We asked Kat Farmer, personal shopper and founder of style blog Does My Bum Look 40 in This?, to pick her ultimate off-duty pieces for autumn

A touch of velvet

“Velvet is making a comeback this season, and this gorgeously tactile jacket offers the perfect day-to-night solution. I love it worn as a suit with the matching wide-leg trousers – but, obviously, you can mix and match. I’m a huge fan of paring back smarter outfits with classic white leather trainers, complete with a striped top for an effortless Parisian spin.”

Chic so simple

“Meet the investment piece that will last for ever: the camel coat. It’s the one shade I pull out of my wardrobe year after year, and it’s more versatile than you think – wear it with navy, grey, khaki, red or any shade of berry; but, for me, nothing works better than black.

“This look is my ultimate autumn uniform. I couldn’t survive the season without a black cashmere polo neck and a pair of perfect-fit skinny jeans. This ensemble is chic, comfortable and instantly elegant, day or night.”

The new classics

“A timeless black biker is my go-to cover up for autumn. It’s perfect for layering with long-sleeved tees or knitted jumpers (as you can see, one of my favourites is the ever-chic Breton stripe). If I’m still in need of an extra layer, I just throw on a chunky scarf when the temperature drops.

“I’ve styled it here with a pair of super-comfy cropped trousers – a silhouette that I’m currently in love with. The fabric flows beautifully to flattering effect and will work with office or evening dress codes – they’re just as chic with heels as they are dressed down with trainers.”
