Make a meal of it

You've chosen some delicious food – now it’s time to bring the restaurant to you with our fun ideas!

Set the scene
Laying the table instantly makes your meal feel special. Try a simple tablecloth or runner and some empty jam jars filled with flowers and foliage picked (responsibly) from outside, alongside candles, napkins and your favourite glasses. Kids can help make handwritten place-cards or menus (get younger children to draw the dishes being served).

Choose your theme
How about a pasta night, complete with parmesan grated at the table and candles in wine bottles, or a Spanish-themed evening with sangria and tapas? Or, try an indoor picnic with rugs and cushions on the floor. Get the family involved with choosing your theme, and make a special playlist to match it.

Up your presentation game
Serve up your food in the middle of the table on your favourite dish or platter, and scatter a few fresh herbs or chillies on top. Got little ones? Let them help with making the food into fun shapes – check out our cooking with kids feature for some ideas.

The menu is made up of dishes from our premium ranges, such as Our Best Ever and Gastropub, so you know you’re getting the very best. Think Our Best Ever steak pie – with handcrafted golden pastry – king prawn bucatini and Gastropub melt-in-the-middle chocolate puddings.

Fancy a delicious wine to go alongside? Wine aficionado Fred Sirieix has chosen some gems from our Classics range – check out his picks here.

Enjoy a tasty takeaway

You can’t beat a chilled-out takeaway at home. Our takeaway boxes – which come in Indian, Thai and Chinese options and are £10 each – are a proper feast of freshly prepared dishes with loads of flavour.

Better yet, many of the dishes can be frozen for another day – just look out for the ‘suitable for freezing’ logo on the pack.

And the perfect drinks pairing? Something lower in alcohol and refreshing is what works, thus the classic pairing of beer with curry. Try our zesty double-hopped citra IPA.

Try a DIY pizza night

Get creative in the kitchen with these easy ideas for a fun pizza-themed family night in.

Customise a ready-made cheese and tomato pizza with your favourite toppings, such as cured meats, chillies, mushrooms, black olives, roasted peppers and fresh basil. Let kids help make their own designs.

Pick up our easy ready-made pizza bases, then make a quick tomato sauce by simmering fresh or tinned tomatoes with garlic and basil. Top with sun-dried tomatoes, cheese such as mozzarella, parmesan or cheddar, artichokes, ham or ribbons of courgette.

Don’t have pizza bases to hand? Don’t worry! Try making with tortillas, flatbreads or even pitta breads layered up with your favourite toppings and baked. You could even use a ready-made naan bread, topped with mango chutney, chickpeas and tandoori chicken, for an Indian twist on pizza.

Make your own dips by mixing cream cheese or mayonnaise with garlic, blue cheese or smoked paprika.

Leave whole chillies and garlic to infuse in a bottle of olive oil for a few days, then drizzle on your pizza.

Shake up some homemade cocktails

Kick off your special dinner in style with a homemade cocktail or mocktail. Try our easy ideas:

Citrus spritz
Fill a glass with ice and squeeze in the juice of half an orange (or use orange juice) and a dash of aperitivo liqueur. Top up with prosecco or cava, stir, then finish with a slice of orange. For a mocktail version, leave out the aperitivo and swap the prosecco for soda water.

White wine sangria
Fill a jug with white wine and ice, then add a dash of elderflower liqueur. Finish with fresh fruit such as cucumber, raspberries, strawberries and lemon wedges, then top up with soda water. Swap the wine for lemonade to make an alcohol-free version.

Easy freezer bellini
Blend frozen fruit such as mango, berries or pineapple. Pour into a champagne glass then top up with sparkling wine or, for a mocktail, sparkling water.
