Elsa Malbec

Vintage: 2014

A gorgeous smoky Malbec with a vivid violet colour and intense aromas of plum and cherry. In the mouth it is silky smooth, with an abundance of dark fruit flavours over subtle tannins and a round and harmonious finish.

About this bottle: This Malbec is from the San Rafael area of Mendoza, one of the cooler parts of Argentina’s world-famous region. Grapes ripen slower in San Rafael, developing brighter fruit flavours and aromatics, especially in the vineyards of Rama Caida, one of the coolest areas in San Rafael, where the vines grow at 760 metres. Winemaker Facundo Pereira sourced only hand-picked grapes, using gentle winemaking techniques to extract as much freshness and fragrance from the fruit as possible, then enriching the wine in oak for six months prior to bottling.

Joel Roubuchon Syrah

Vintage: 2013

A fresh and balanced medium-bodied Syrah with lovely blackcurrant, liquorice and garrigue herb aromas. In the mouth it is nice and fleshy, very fruit driven with elegant Syrah flavours of blackcurrant and black pepper and soft tannins.

About this bottle: This extraordinary Syrah is collaboration between Caroline Frey, winemaker for Paul Jaboulet Aîné, and world-famous chef Joël Robuchon. The pair travelled through the South of France, exploring the terroirs between Avignon and Montpellier. This Syrah is a link between the two banks of the Rhône, made with grapes from both the clay and limestone sides of the river. It expresses the spicy, garrigue herb aromas of the Rhône as well as the rounded red-fruit intensity of the Languedoc. The grapes were picked at night to capture all their aromatic qualities, and no oak maturation was used.

Le Jour et Nuit Carignan

Vintage: 2014

A deep ruby-red Carignan from mature old vines, offering deep blackberry aromas and notes of sun-baked spices. In the mouth it is dense and full-bodied, with sumptuous autumn fruit notes nicely balanced with good tannins.

About this bottle: France’s Languedoc-Roussillon region spans 700,000 acres of vineyards around the Mediterranean coastline from the border with Spain right around to Provence. Despite a myriad grapes grown across this region, it is often said that the Carignan variety is the genuine grape of Southern France. Winemaker Thomas Verdeil selected Carignan grapes from vines of between 30 and 50 years in age. These gnarled old vines may produce less grapes than younger vines, but their fruit tends to be smaller with more concentrated flavours, helping to create intensely fruity and complex wines such as this.

Ca’ di Alte Veneto - Pinot Nero

Vintage: 2013

A light and fresh tasting Pinot Nero with a pretty ruby-red colour and ripe aromas of summer cherries, liquorice and perfumed flowers. In the mouth it is juicy and balanced, with mouthwatering fruit depths and a nice long finish.

About this bottle: Ca‘ di Alte winery was created by Italian Alberto Marchisio. Although from Piemonte, Alberto has been working in the Northeast Veneto region for some years. He has been responsible for dramatically improving the quality of the wines at Cantina Colli Vicentini. The Pinot Nero grapes for this wine were grown on the hills South of Vicenza, the Colli Berici, where the hillside sites experience cooler nights and allow the aromatic compounds of the grapes to develop. Alberto captured the delicate aromas of the grapes in the winery, ageing 30% of the wine in oak to add depth and complexity.

El Circo

Vintage: 2012

A concentrated red from Northeast Spain with sumptuous aromas of poached cherries and blackcurrants over hints of leather and orange peel. In the mouth it is lush and smooth, with ripe bramble fruit flavours balanced by a savoury, earthy edge.

About this bottle: The Grandes Vinos cooperative has vineyards across the Cariñena region, covering different microclimates and altitudes ranging from 320 to 850 metres. The continental climate in this region, with its cold winters and hot summers, is mitigated by the cool and dry Cierzo wind, which blows through the vineyards and dries the grapes as they ripen. Chilean winemaker Marcelo Morales Calderon came for the vintage 13 years ago and stayed, excited by both the quality of the fruit and the high standard of the facilities he had – and still has – at his disposal.

Finca La Colonia Sauvignon Blanc

Vintage: 2014

A deliciously Argentinean Sauvignon with an intense bouquet of citrus, garden herbs and gooseberry. Zesty and fresh in the mouth, the wine offers plenty of bright fruit characteristics, with an elegant dry finish.

About this bottle: Finca La Colonia was founded in 1932 in Mendoza. This beautiful estate sits in the foothills of the Andes, home to over 45 families who work in the vineyards of Bodega Norton, one of Argentina’s finest winemakers. The estate’s location at 1,100 metres above sea level ensures the finest conditions in which to produce grapes. The altitude moderates temperatures and extends the grapes’ ripening season, resulting in wines packed with vibrant fruit flavours with good natural acidity. This wine expresses all the fruit expression associated with New World Sauvignon, and was bottled early to maximise freshness.

Ca’ di Alte Pinot Grigio

Vintage: 2014

A lovely straw-yellow Pinot Grigio with delicate citrus, white flower and freshly baked biscuit aromas. On the palate the wine is medium bodied and balanced, with a surprisingly fruity palate and a fresh, rounded finish.

About this bottle: Ca‘ di Alte winery was created by Italian Alberto Marchisio. Although from Piemonte, Alberto has been working in the Northeast Veneto region for some years and has been responsible for dramatically improving the quality of the wines at Cantina Colli Vicentini. The Pinot Grigio grapes for this wine were grown on the hills south of Vicenza, where the hillside sites ensure lower yields and better ripeness of the grapes.
