The monochrome dress
This feminine per una dress, as seen on actress, screenwriter and author, Emma Thompson, works beautifully for a variety of occasions, says M&S.com editor, Nicola Copping.
Who better to kick-start our Leading Ladies Style & Living takeover than the leading British lady of stage and screen, Emma Thompson, wearing one of the season’s key trends. While monochrome can be a simple trend at first glance, add a stripe or, as with this per una dress, a chevron, and suddenly a whole new sartorial personality can appear (quite useful for an actress, methinks). The midi length of this piece is one I personally find to be the most flattering – falling mid-calf feels resolutely feminine, while the nipped-in waist helps enhance the hourglass shape and creates a fun full skirt. And, boy, is this is a dress to have fun with – follow Emma’s lead and sling on some sandals, throw on a hat, and swish that skirt to your heart’s content.
