Alauda Quinta de Aves Chardonnay 2014

Alauda Quinta de Aves Chardonnay 2014

A golden Spanish Chardonnay with a lively fresh bouquet of tropical fruits shot through with citrussy notes. The palate is dry and refreshing, with juicy mango and pineapple flavours and a lingering hazelnut finish.

About this wine:

Based in Calatrava in the famous La Mancha region, Bodegas Quinta de Aves have 75 hectares of vines spread through a land rich in wildlife and history (an old Templar refuge can be found in one of their vineyards). Winemaker Laura Garcia Cámara selected the Chardonnay grapes for this wine from a vineyard 725 meteres above sea level, where the hot sun is tempered by cold nights and gives balance to the fruit. Once fermented, the wine was left unoaked to display a unique southern Spanish take on this classic grape variety.

Mineralstein Riesling 2013

Mineralstein Riesling 2013

This premium modern German Riesling offers clean and refreshing aromas of citrus and peach backed by a hint of spice. The rich off-dry palate is brisk and mouthwatering, with a good balance of fruit and acidity and a long minerally finish.

About this wine:

Created by winemakers Matthias Gaul and Gerd Stepp, this exceptional Riesling is a blend of two classic German regions: the Mosel and Pfalz. To create a wine that reflects the character of each region and marry them together successfully, the winemakers took care to select the right grapes for the job, sourcing fruit from specially chosen vineyards. The result is a wonderfully mouthwatering and refreshing wine that harmoniously balances the firm mineral and slate character of the Mosel with the peach and apricot ripeness of the Pfalz.

Serving suggestion:

Serve lightly chilled as the perfect aperitif, or try it paired with smoked fish, sushi, mildly spicy stir-fries and roast pork belly with apple sauce.

Zilzie Selection 23 2014

Zilzie Selection 23 2014

This intriguing Pinot Grigio gives the classic Italian grape a unique Aussie spin, offering citrus and ripe pear aromas over a lively dry palate of juicy stone fruit and baked apple notes, finishing with a zesty, minerally crispness.

About this wine:

Zilzie’s vineyards are located in the Murray Darling region of south eastern Australia, an area of rich red loam and limestone soils where vines thrive in the typically hot Mediterranean-like climate. Winemaker Hayden Donohue sourced the Pinot Grigio grapes for this wine from vines around 15 years old, harvesting the fruit at night when it is at its coolest to retain the maximum fruit flavours. After fermentation the wine was aged on its lees for two months to intensify its complexity and fruity exuberance.

Serving suggestion:

Enjoy this wine chilled as a gorgeous summer aperitif, or pair with dishes like grilled chicken and mango salad, salt and pepper squid or even mild Thai or Asian spiced salads. Drink while young, within the next 18 months.

Zevenwacht 7even Bouquet 2014

Zevenwacht 7even Bouquet 2014

This aromatic dry white has a gorgeous golden colour and a perfumed bouquet of sweet yellow fruit and hints of spice. The off-dry palate is luscious with a juicy peach richness and floral depths over a long, balanced finish.

About this wine:

Zevenwacht is a family owned estate in South Africa’s beautiful Stellenbosch hills. The southwest-facing vineyards here are carefully managed in keeping with the local wildlife. Being exposed to the sea breezes, the temperature is kept cool in the summer and frosts are prevented in winter, so the fruit is always healthy and reaches ripeness with little trouble. Winemaker Jacques Viljoen blended Muscat, Viognier and Gewürztraminer grapes to make this unique wine, hand-picking and cool-fermenting the fruit to capture as much of its fragrance and character as possible.

Serving suggestion:

This seductive wine makes a wonderful aperitif, as well as a perfect match for Asian cuisines and lighter fragrant curries, Thai noodles or Moroccan dishes.

Assyrtiko 2013

Assyrtiko 2013

Pale yellowy-green in colour with a seductive bouquet of mango and fresh pineapple. The dry palate is finely structured with zesty acidity and a long mouth-watering finish offering pink grapefruit and lemon sorbet notes.

About this wine:

Winemaker Dimitris Gouravas is on a mission to show the world the extraordinary potential of Greece’s grape varieties. A trained agriculturalist with a Masters Degree in Oenology from the Bordeaux Faculty of Oenology, Dimitris is highly passionate about crafting modern wines from Crete’s indigenous grapes. He sourced the Assyrtiko fruit for this wine from mature vineyards at 450 metres. Blessed with cool summer winds from the nearby mountains, the grapes ripen with excellent character and acidic balance, which Dimitris reveals through carefully controlled fermentation and keeping the wine unoaked.

Enjoy well chilled as a delicate aperitif or as the perfect foil for barbecued sardines and mackerel, fresh seafood or poached chicken.

Gamma Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Gamma Sauvignon Blanc 2014

This organic Sauvignon Blanc offers zingy lime zest and crunchy green pepper aromas over a mouth-watering palate positively alive with zippy fresh fruit and mineral complexities with a long, lingering finish.

About this wine:

Chile’s Emiliana winery is one of the world’s leading producers of organic and biodynamic wines. In converting their vineyards they have replaced all synthetic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers with natural products of biological origin. Grape leaves, stalks and stems, plus other plant matter and animal manure, are used to fertilise the vineyard topsoil, while weeds are controlled by letting animals roam through the vine rows. The Casablanca Valley is strongly influenced by the cooling breezes that sweep in from the Pacific Ocean and temper the vines as they ripen and give them greater aromatic and flavour balance.

Serving suggestion:

Enjoy this wine chilled as a refreshing aperitif or partner for a wide variety of foods, from sushi and fresh seafood to goat’s cheese salads, asparagus or smoked ham. Drink while young and vibrant, within a year of purchase.
