Cashmere cardigan qualityHaving purchased cashmere cardigans from M&S for several years I was really disappointed with this latest version. As noted by other reviewers the quality of the garment has dropped - the velvet ribbon edging has gone, the neckline is only a single knit (previously double knit), the bottom hem welt is deeper (not very kind to the figure). I was tempted to keep the chartreuse cardigan as it is a lovely colour, but the button holes were so small I couldn't undo it. So, very reluctantly, I have returned these and hope that M&S take note of the comments from regular customers.

Anni M from
Oatmeal Cashmere cardiganI have bought cashmere cardigans from M&S before and apart from the darker colours, that for some reason bobble up more then the lighter colours, I have been delighted.
The buttons, that are mother of pearl are lovely and better then the shank versions on the previous models. But missed the velvet ribbon that the buttons were on.It keep the fastening nice and tight.
I am hoping this version will wash ( by hand ) as nicely as the previous ones.
I know it is suggested that this garment can be mashine washed, but the rinsing program uses cold water ,which is leathal for cashmere.

Wearing badlyThis is the second cashmere cardigan Ive had -the other from another well known store of good standing. This cardigan has only been worn @10 times, often only for an hour or 2- and looks considerably worse for wear that the other, which is 3-4 years old which looks almost as good as the day I bought it.
I havent washed this item yet but it is very 'bobbly' all over, not just in one place. This is very disappointing for a garment of this price and I now feel that I dont want to wear it as its looking a bit shabby.
So not only would I not be recommending this item I wont be buying another M&S cashmere garment if this is what I can expect.

Not pleasedI bought this in store, when I got home the neckline had an incorrect neckband. It was misaligned not meeting edge to edge. I returned it and ordered another. The same problem on the replacement one. To make matters worse I had bought the same cardigan back in January in another colour, wore it once and that too has a bad neckline. I did not spot that so have not returned it but do think there are some issues in quality control. If the cardigan is worn done up, it is not so noticeable but when open it is obvious.
I am fond of your cashmere but I will not be buying again until without a very close scrutiny of my purchase.

A matter of choiceBought my first M&S cashmere cardigan 12 years ago and it's still going strong. It's been washed dozens of times. I have generally bought at least one cashmere garment every year since then. Some year's offerings have been better than others.
This year the length is shorter (better for me) and the style is the same classic shape (good for me too) However I do agree with previous reviewers that the cashmere texture feels thinner this year. I find that cashmere generally improves once washed and feels more luxurious. Time will tell with this years 'crop'
Overall, these garments are good value at the price compared with other similar retailers. It is, essentially a matter of choice.

Quality has gone down hillI have been buying these cashmere cardigans from M&S for about ten years and bought my latest to replace a navy one which has been a wardrobe mainstay.
The quality has gone right down hill.
There is no petersham or velvet ribbon on the button placket now, the buttons are bigger and not as nice, and the length is shorter. I would say the fit is skimpier too.
I have kept at as I needed it, but like other reviewers I would have rather paid a bit more for a better quality garment.
I bought it when the 20% Sparks offer was running, I wouldn't have paid full price, it's just not anything special.

Not the same quality product as in previous yearsI have three other M and S cashmere cardigans bought over the last five years and they are all of a superior quality to this version. Economies have clearly been made: the cashmere is not so luxurious, there is no velvet trim on the button facing, no proper finish round the neck, 'thin' buttons, and most significant for me, a shortening in both the length of the sleeves and the body.
Very disappointing all round.
With 20% off, I might have overlooked some of the above issues, but I tried both the 12 and the 14 and neither were long enough in the sleeve ( or body) so both were returned. (I'm 5'8" so not uber tall!)

Should have been a trusty replacementI like to buy a new cashmere cardi from M&S every year to grow my classic cashmere collection. I bought this one to replace the same worn out navy blue version. However, when it arrived it was still as lovely and soft and the style was the same but the detailing was just not as good. Buttons bigger and on a very early model there was a velvet ribbon feature on the inside edge. This is just plain. It's obviously still as functional but it's just no longer a special piece of clothing. I debated this with myself (as I took advantage of the 20% discount available at the time of order) but it has gone back.
