    Phebus Torrontes

You might not have heard of the Torrontés grape, but this wine is a great example of it, bursting with freshness, character and flavours of peach, pineapple and tropical citrus fruits.

About this bottle: This Torrontés is from Bodegas Fabre in Mendoza’s Uco Valley, a winery founded in the early 1990s by French winemaker Herve Joyaux Fabre. He moved from his native Bordeaux after falling in love with the Mendocenean terroir, and this punchy wine is a real testament to his vision.

    Tinga Reserve Chardonnay

    Vintage: 2015

This impressive Chilean Chardonnay is from one of the cooler coastal regions, helping to give it extra freshness and complexity.

About this bottle: While Chile’s sun-baked Colchagua Valley is famed for its bold reds, the coastal Colchagua Costa area differs greatly. Just 15 miles from coast, the vineyards here benefit from cool sea breezes, which keep the temperatures down and allow the grapes to ripen with excellent balance.

    Ken Forrester Petit Sauvignon Blanc

    Vintage: 2016

South African quality strikes again in this fresh and expressive Stellenbosch Sauvignon showing aromas of tropical fruits, nectarines and cut grass.

About this bottle: South African legend Ken Forrester earned his reputation making Chenin Blanc wines, but turns his attention to the more affable Sauvignon Blanc here. The grape variety grows exceptionally well in Ken’s picture-postcard Stellenbosch vineyards, creating highly expressive wines.

Domaine St Jean de la Cavalerie Chardonnay

    Vintage: 2015

A rich, complex and oak-tinged dry white with flavours of ripe stone fruits, pineapple and vanilla.

About this bottle: Despite the ancient heritage of the estate, this is a very 21st Century wine. Winemaker David Alcaraz balances the traditions of the Pays d’Oc with some nifty modern touches, such as night-harvesting the grapes for freshness and using just enough oak to flesh out the Chardonnay.

    Messapi Primitivo

    Vintage: 2015

Representing the new wave of southern Italian wines, this lovely Primitivo offers bags of freshness and mouth-watering fruit purity with flavours of ripe red cherries, berries and soft spices.

About this bottle: It gets so hot down in Puglia that grapes can easily over ripen. Thankfully, a new generation of winemakers, like Teodosio D’Apolito, pay very close attention to their grapes and harvest just when the sugars and acids are in balance, letting them create fresh-tasting wines like this.

    • Bottle size: 750 ml
    • Alcohol content: 13.5 %
    • Alcohol units per bottle: 10.1
    • Alcohol units per serving: 1.7

Terre di Monteforte Versante' Rosso Verona

    Vintage: 2014

A classic northern Italian red that’s all about balance and mouth-watering cherry notes backed with plums and tangy blackcurrants.

About this bottle: Purists, look away. Here’s a modern Veronese red that blends the region’s classic Corvina grape with the French varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This approach is still a little controversial in Italy, but there’s no doubt it helps create wonderfully juicy red like this.

    • Bottle size: 750 ml
    • Alcohol content: 13.5 %
    • Alcohol units per bottle: 10.1
    • Alcohol units per serving: 1.7

    Rocca del Geco Inzolia

    Vintage: 2015

A crisp, vibrant and aromatic dry white with flavours of peaches, melons and Amalfi lemons.

About this bottle: The west of Sicily is a vast grape-growing area, larger even than those of Veneto and Tuscany. This is the home of Sicily’s famous dessert wine, Marsala, but also the less well known dry whites made from its same grape varieties, like Cataratto, Grillo and the aromatic Inzolia.

    • Bottle size: 750 ml
    • Alcohol content: 12.5 %
    • Alcohol units per bottle: 9.4
    • Alcohol units per serving: 1.6

    Le Chant des Garrigues

    Vintage: 2014

Everything you want from a sunny Languedoc red, gorgeous layers of expressive fruit (ripe dark berries and plums) and complex spicy depths.

About this bottle: St Chinian is thought to be the oldest winemaking area of the Languedoc. Blessed with crumbly red sandstone soils and a sunny Mediterranean climate, grapes grow here with exceptional winemaking potential, as this skilfully made blend from winemaker Benoit Macia shows.

    • Bottle size: 750 ml
    • Alcohol content: 13 %
    • Alcohol units per bottle: 9.8

    Flor de Anon Roble

    Vintage: 2015

One of those comforting reds Spain does so well, with ripe berries, spices and sweet oak.

About this bottle: Campo de Borja in Zaragoza, Northeast Spain, is as an area of dusty dry plains and rocky foothills steeped in tradition and winemaking history. For this red, Roberto Perez blended Garnacha with Syrah, ageing the wine in French and American oak for added richness and character.

    • Bottle size: 750 ml
    • Alcohol content: 14.5 %
    • Alcohol units per bottle: 10.9
    • Alcohol units per serving: 1.8

    Flor de Anon Verdejo

    Vintage: 2015

A crisp, aromatic and mouth-watering dry white with flavours of passion fruit, limes, lychees and fennel.

About this bottle: Verdejo is a new grape within Spain’s Campo de Borja DO (it’s mostly found over in the northwest). But winemaker Roberto Perez had a hunch the terroir around Flor de Anon was well suited to it, and as this complex and mouth-wateringly fragrant wine shows, his hunch paid off.

    Grower's Signature 'The Chairman'

    Vintage: 2013

Power, structure and maturity showing flavours of are what best describe this lovely chunky red from the Western Cape of South Africa.

About this bottle: The classic red wines of Bordeaux not only inspire the world’s wine lists, but its winemakers too. This red is a great take on ‘left bank’ clarets, blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from mature vineyards in the Darling district, with 12 months’ oak ageing adding depth and richness.
